About Us
Steve was brought up with cars, his father was a mechanic in England. He has been working in the trade since 1972 and is a qualified Automotive Engineer. He started his apprenticeship with Hutchison Motors, working on Fords for eight years. Later moved to Branston Auto to get a wider range of experience.
After 3 1/2 years and looking for more experience, he moved to Trevor Crowe Motors. While there, he got involved with race car preparation and construction. Four years on he wanted to have a break from fixing cars and becoming a sales rep for a tractor parts company. Missing the trade, he moved back into it after 18 months.
Working now for Motor Corp specialising in Range Rover, Rover and Honda cars. In 1987, Steve was asked to start up a workshop for South Pacific Motors who were one of the first importers of Japanese imports. He gained a massive amount of experience here and has become one of the most experienced repairers in trade. Steve was offered the opportunity to take over this workshop as his own business in 1989 calling it South City Auto. Later changing the name to Steve Welford Automotive when a move of premises was required.
Steve is also a talented artist. He gained a lot of respect from the motoring fraternity with his realistic paintings of motor racing and also with caricatures of touring cars. Commissions include developing a caricature for the Australian touring car giant Perkins Motor Sport and creating a calendar for Orix Finance in 2004. He continues to learn and perfect his work.
